Theme: Landmarks.

Aims and objectives:

  • Use the vocabulary on the topic
  • Understand details in presentation/video and speak about them
  • Discuss and give opinions about the topic using appropriate vocabulary and own words while talking about houses and homes

Type of the lesson: combined lesson

Equipment: a board, a video, a cartoon, a presentation, paper

 

                                                            Plan:

I.Preliminaries and Warm-up.

1.Discussing aims, tasks and criteria of the lesson.

2.Watch a cartoon and name the topic of the lesson.

3.Give the definition of the word landmark.

4. Speak about your favourite or dream landmark.

II.Presentation.

Vocabulary. Write the words according to their definitions (I group). Match the words with their definitions (II group).

III.Practice.

1.Watch Ss presentation about famous landmarks and complete the chart (1group Asia; 2group Europe)

2.Watch a S reporting the results of the questionnaire.

3.Watch a video. Complete the table (I group modern). Answer the questions (II group old).

IV.Production.

1.Make a collage/poster about Taraz and present it.

2.Make a test/quiz.

V.Conclusion and hometask.

Count the points.

Evaluate the work at the lesson.

Speak about your favourite place in Taraz.

                                                        Outline:

I.Preliminaries and Warm-up.

1.Discussing aims, tasks and criteria of the lesson.

2.The Ss watch a cartoon and name the topic of the lesson.

3.Ss give the definition of the word landmark.

4. Speak about your favourite or dream landmark.

Answers: Ss own ideas

II.Presentation.

The Ss revise vocabulary. They write the words according to their definitions (I group) and match the words with their definitions (II group), then exchange their papers and check.

III.Practice.

1.The Ss watch a presentation about famous landmarks and complete the chart. The I group takes notes about landmarks in Asia, the II group-about landmarks in Europe. The work is checked by presenters, then Ss talk about interesting facts about landmarks according to the opinion of the group.

2.The Ss watch a report with the diagram about the results of the questionnaire “How well do you know Taraz”

3.The Ss watch a video and complete the chart about it (I group modern) and (II group old). The Ss check their work by themselves. They also tell all the information they know about places of interest in Taraz.

IV.Production.

 1.The Ss in groups make a collage/poster about Taraz and present it.

2.The Ss make a test/quiz.

V.Conclusion and hometask.

The T counts the points.

The Ss evaluate their work at the lesson.

The Ss have to speak about their favourite place in Taraz.
