Theme: Houses and housing.

Aims and objectives:

  • Use the vocabulary on the topic
  • Understand details in presentation/video and speak about them
  • Discuss and give opinions about the topic using appropriate vocabulary and own words while talking about houses and homes

Type of the lesson: combined lesson

Equipment: a board, a video, a cartoon, presentations, proverbs, paper

 

                                                            Plan:

I.Preliminaries and Warm-up.

1.Discussing aims, tasks and criteria of the lesson.

2.Watch a cartoon and name the topic of the lesson.

3.Give and explain associations with the word house.

II.Presentation.

Vocabulary. Write the words according to their definitions (I group). Match the words with their definitions (II group).

III.Practice.

1.Watch a S presentation about unusual houses and complete the table.

2.Watch a S reporting the results of the questionnaire.

3.Watch a video. Complete the sentences (I group). Answer the questions (II group).

IV.Production.

1.Write proverbs/sayings with the words house, home.

2.Choose any proverb from the board and speak about it.

V.Conclusion and hometask.

Count the points.

Evaluate the work at the lesson.

Make a poster “Our dream house”, present it and speak about its advantages and disadvantages.

 

                                                        Outline:

I.Preliminaries and Warm-up.

1.Discussing aims, tasks and criteria of the lesson.

2.The Ss watch a cartoon and name the topic of the lesson.

Answers: houses

3.Ss give and explain their associations with the word house

Answers: Ss own ideas

II.Presentation.

The Ss revise vocabulary: types of houses. They write the words according to their definitions (I group) and match the words with their definitions (II group), then exchange their papers and check.

III.Practice.

1.The Ss watch a presentation about unusual houses and complete the table. The I group takes notes about nature-made houses, the II group-about man-made houses. The groups check their work by themselves, then talk about the most unusual house according to the opinion of the group.

2.The Ss watch a report with the diagram about the results of the questionnaire “Where would you like to live and why?”

3.The Ss watch a video and complete the information about it using the sentences (I group) and answering the questions (II group). They also explain the adjectives they used to describe the house and people in it. The S who prepared the video checks the work.

IV.Production.

 1.The Ss in groups write proverbs/sayings with the words house, home.

2.The Ss choose any proverb from the board, discuss it and speak about it.

V.Conclusion and hometask.

The T counts the points.

The Ss evaluate their work at the lesson.
