  • use phrases which introduce reasons in their conversations
  • give reasons and necessary examples

Learners have met 8.S7 learning objective if they can use words and phrases to express opinion and give examples.

“Letter jumble”

Divied the class into teams and give each sheet of words cut into pieces. the students ' task is to make pieces of more words in limited time

 

(I, P, W) Listening and Speaking

 

Listen to Tyrone calling the staff at his local swimming pool and do the exercises to practise and improve your listening skills.

Prelisting exercises 

Children are divided into pairs; sheets are distributed with words from the text. challenge students to divide the words into three groups

Put the sports in the correct groups.

Write down phrases which help to express opinion and give reasons and examples.

Show students phrases where they need to choose the best option, then ask them to listen to the recording and check their answers.

Students listen again and write down phrases which first three speakers use to introduce reasons for their opinions and for the final speakers phrases they use to introduce examples.

1. There are four different age groups that play water polo. True False

2. Tyrone wants to join the under 14s club. True False

3. The under 16s water polo team train three times a week. True False

 5. Water polo matches are played on Saturdays. True False

 6. You have to pay to join the water polo classes for under 18s. True False

7. You need to bring a photo to register at the swimming pool. True False

 8. Training for the water polo team starts this week. True False

Students discuss questions below in pairs. They should use phrases to express their opinion and give examples and reasons:

  1. What kind of sports do you like/dislike watching on TV?
  2. Which sports more interesting than others?
  3. Are all sports good for us?
  4. What can sport teach us?

Students work together and discuss which sport is: exciting? Relaxing? Difficult? Dangerous? Fun? Interesting to watch? Interesting to play/do? They should use words and phrases from the previous tasks.

Teacher assesses students formatively and provides feedback and delayed correction.
